Ontario has already experienced double the number of forest fires this year compared to the same six months in 2022. As of June 20th, there are 51 active forest fires across northern Ontario. The new fires include:
1. Red Lake 184, which is not under control and located about six kilometres west of Sandy Lake First Nation.
2. Red Lake 185 is 15 hectares and not under control, and located about 14 kilometres south of Keewaywin First Nation.
3. Dryden 86, which is burning about 18 kilometres west of Ignace.
4. Kenora 113, which is located about five kilometres south of Grassy Narrows First Nation.
A large portion of northwestern Ontario is under special weather statements as of June 14th due to forest fire smoke.
